No, it's not the Amiga CD32 game ported to C64..

In Microcosm, your job is to make all the pods grow to their maximum size. To do this, you have to grab a bud from the top of the screen, go to one of the pods on the ground(look at the second screenshot on Lemon's games list for an idea...they resemble green dollar signs in the shot), push down(or fire...it's been a while for me too) to plant the bud. Every time you do, the plant grows up a bit until you plant enough to get it to maximum size.

Avoid the yellow acid drops, the spiders and aphids(blue creatures) while you work, as it's instant death to make contact with them. Fortunately, you have a gun that can kill the aphids with single shots. Unfortunately, you also have to make sure the plants stay healthy...At the top of the screen is a "PHLOEM" bar that decreases with time. If that bar runs out, the plants are considered dead and you lose a life. Luckily, each stage has a green can of plant nutrients that you can use to restore the bar. Just fly over to it, drop off your gun, pick up the can(again, via down or fire I can't recall), then fly over to any huge plant and press fire next to it to begin recharging your bar. When satisfied, fly back, pick up your gun and continue your work.

The stage is complete when all pods reach their maximum size...However(not to discourage you, though), I think the game is endless. Once you complete enough stages, it loops and you start again, but at a faster speed.
